Spewing solar wind, a fissure in the solar atmosphere is spinning toward Earth. The NASA Solar Dynamic Observatory photographed the "coronal hole" during the early hours of June 1:
Coronal holes are places where the Sun's magnetic field opens up and allows solar wind to escape. A solar wind stream flowing from this coronal hole will reach Earth in June 5-7, possibly shaking geomagnetic storms.
